Backpacking 101
Backpacking fundamentals for adults and girls 14 and older who want to take their first step to the outdoor adventure. Session includes, but is not limited to, Leave No Trace, backpack equipment and related topics, backpack cooking and route planning. This is an 8-hour classroom session. Backpacking 101 is required before taking Backpacking 102 and Extreme Backpacking. This is an optional class.

Prerequisite: Safety-Wise, ETT
Required For: Volunteers whose girls are planning and preparing for activities in the natural environment relating to backpacking.
Recommended For: Volunteers working with girls who are expressing an interest in backpacking activities.
Required Before: Backpacking 102 and Extreme Backpacking
Fee: $10.00

Backpacking 102
“Take a Hike!” Literally! Now that you have learned the fundamentals of backpacking, you are ready for the next step. This session will provide you an outdoor environment to exercise some of the skills from Backpacking 101. The hike will be an easy to moderate day trip. This is an optional class.

Prerequisite: Backpacking 101, must be reasonably fit (can carry 20% of weight in a backpack for 6 miles), and ETT
Required For: Same as for Backpacking 101
Recommended For: Same as for Backpacking 101
Required Before: Extreme Backpacking
Fee: $10.00

Extreme Backpacking
Now the adventure begins! This backpack excursion includes a prep night and an overnight backpack trip for adults and girls 14 years and older who have completed Backpacking 101 and 102. This is an optional class. Come practice what you’ve learned in Backpacking 101 and 102.

Prerequisite: Backpacking 101 & 102, must be reasonably fit (can carry 20% of weight in a backpack for 6 miles)
Required For: Same as for Backpacking 101 and 102
Recommended For: Same as for Backpacking 101 and 102
Fee: $15.00
