You provide your own transportation.

R.A.D. Self-Defense Class

The program offers realistic self-defense tactics and techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities. The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. From Earth to Eat: Harvest Festival

Webelos Wood

Senior and Ambassadors will help facilitate this fun-filled weekend. Duties may include helping with registration or teaching a skill class with a fellow Boy Scout. The weekend is set up with flexibility in mind, which means you can camp out one or two nights or just come for the day on Saturday. It is entirely up to you and your troop. Saturday morning will bring you 12 courses on basic scout craft skills. In the afternoon your patrol will compete in a hands-on competition to try out those newly found skills. From friendship to fellowship, to the new found confidence that each scout will gain, this is one weekend NOT to miss. Travel Training: Destinations 101- A Girl Learning Opportunity

As part of the From Earth to Eat program, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors are invited to join us for a day on the farm. We will tour the farm, learn how to grow and harvest corps in Southern Arizona, learn about organic growing methods, water conservation and soil health. This is a work day on the farm so girls should plan to get their hands dirty in order to help grow great food.

This event will cover topics such as marketing, presentations, sales techniques and much more. Upon completion of this program, you will have the opportunity to do professional cookie pitches to local businesses. Behind the Scenes...Reid Park Zoo!

Girls will love this behind the scenes tour at the Reid Park Zoo. Visits to the zoo’s kitchen, health center, and an animal night house will give you a whole new perspective on what it takes to keep the zoo’s animal residents healthy and active. After the tour, your troop/family is free to explore the zoo on your own. Fee includes zoo admission, tour and a fun patch. Please note, children under 5 years old will not be allowed on tour.

By setting goals, learning about career choices, and figuring out how to budget girls will be able to fight poverty not only in their own lives, but in others as well. Make a Public Service Announcement to help others become aware of good choices to make concerning their own money.

Our partnership with the Returned Peace Corps Fellows continues as they join us again for this special Thinking Day celebration! Troops presenting will be contacted by our coordinator after registering to determine countries they’ve represented before and what their preference is for this year. Every effort will be made to accommodate you, but selection is dependent on our available Peace Corps representatives. A work session will be planned prior to the holidays (date TBA). This year’s celebration will include a parade of flags by popular request!

Service is an important part of Girl Scouting. This Arizona Cactus-Pine Council’s Own patch can be earned by completing 3 out of 4 activities during Girl Scout Week. Girls participating in this Girl Scout Week patch program receive the patch for participating, not for giving service which we do service without expectation of reward. Supervised demonstrations and hands-on activities will be staged at sequential stations along a trail through the park. There will be demonstrations of traditional Native American crafts such as pottery-making, flintknapping and basket weaving; and hands-on activities including making pottery artifacts that participants can take home, grinding corn on an ancient metate and mano set, and learning to play at least one traditional Native American game.

Get Real, Garden Green!

Learn what it means to really be green when you garden. Girls will help plant spring and summer crops at the Resource Center demonstration garden. Girls will also get to make natural bug repellents and a compost bin. All girls will be able to take home seeds to plant at home.

Get ready to Jamboreeeeeee Girl Scouts! Our Arizona statewide Jamboree is coming up in April. We return this year to the wonderful Chauncey Ranch in Prescott, Arizona. This year’s theme is A Country Fair so look for all kinds of old fashioned fun! Troops will pitch their own tents and cook their own food as well as participate in all kinds of fun activities, games and challenges. The Jamboree committee is hard at work planning this event, so be on the lookout for more info in the months to come. This is a co-production of Arizona Cactus-Pine Council and Sahuaro Girl Scout Council, so it’s your chance to meet and mingle with Girl Scouts from around the state.

At this training you and your girls will learn all about the Girl Scout travel program and how to get involved. You’ll learn how to find out about trips with nationwide participation as well as trips your troop can undertake on a DIY basis. There is a strict timeline for the process and you’ll uncover all those details as well.
