R.A.D. Self-Defense Class

The program offers realistic self-defense tactics and
techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities. The
R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course that
begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk
avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on
defense training. The classes are reinforced with topics on
Internet chatting/blogging, bullies, peer pressure. Fulfills

Senior and Ambassadors will help facilitate this fun-filled
weekend. Duties may include helping with registration or
teaching a skill class with a fellow Boy Scout. The weekend
is set up with flexibility in mind, which means you can camp
out one or two nights or just come for the day on Saturday.
It is entirely up to you and your troop. Saturday morning
will bring you 12 courses on basic scout craft skills. In
the afternoon your patrol will compete in a hands-on
competition to try out those newly found skills. From
friendship to fellowship, to the new found confidence that

continues as they join us again for this special Thinking
Day celebration! Troops presenting will be contacted by our

selection is dependent on our available Peace Corps
representatives. A work session will be planned prior to the

Celebrate Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month

Join us to learn about the ancient Hohokam who lived at the
Vista Del Rio archaeological site. Supervised demonstrations
and hands-on activities will be staged at sequential
stations along a trail through the park. There will be
demonstrations of traditional Native American crafts such as
pottery-making, flintknapping and basket weaving; and
hands-on activities including making pottery artifacts that
participants can take home, grinding corn on an ancient
metate and mano set, and learning to play at least one
traditional Native American game.

Girl Scout Day at Tucson Botanical Gardens!

Come explore the Tucson Botanical Gardens and all they have
to offer! Please wear something to identify yourself as a
Girl Scout. No reservation or registration necessary. For

From Earth to Eat: Visit the Farmer’s Market and Create a
Green Feast
When: Thursday, March 25, 2010, 3:30 - 6:30 pm

Speedway and Riverview AND Sahuaro Girl Scout Council

Learn how to be green by eating locally. Meet us at the
Santa Cruz River Farmer’s Market to check out produce from
Southern Arizona. Help us pick out seasonal foods to take
back to the Sahuaro Girl Scout Council Resource Center where
we’ll make a delicious meal. All girls will receive a recipe
packet to take home.
3rd Annual Wellness Fair

Get Real, Garden Green!

Capacity: Minimum 10/Maximum 30 girls
Learn what it means to really be green when you garden.
Girls will help plant spring and summer crops at the
Resource Center demonstration garden. Girls will also get to
make natural bug repellents and a compost bin. All girls
will be able to take home seeds to plant at home.
Arizona Statewide Jamboree
When: Friday-Sunday, April 9-11, 2010, time is TBA
Where: Chauncey Ranch, Prescott, Arizona
Who: Juniors through Ambassadors
Fee: Approximately $55 per person

Capacity: Minimum 10/Maximum 300 girls
Get ready to Jamboreeeeeee Girl Scouts! Our Arizona
statewide Jamboree is coming up in April. We return this
year to the wonderful Chauncey Ranch in Prescott, Arizona.
This year’s theme is A Country Fair so look for all kinds of
old fashioned fun! Troops will pitch their own tents and
cook their own food as well as participate in all kinds of
fun activities, games and challenges. The Jamboree committee
is hard at work planning this event, so be on the lookout
for more info in the months to come. This is a co-production
of Arizona Cactus-Pine Council and Sahuaro Girl Scout
Council, so it’s your chance to meet and mingle with Girl
Scouts from around the state.
From the Park to the Playing Field

Come join us for Global Youth Service Day and help us clean
up a local park! After the work is done join us for a
softball game! Traditional troops can mingle with our
outreach troops and celebrate the spirit of Girl Scouting!

Destinations 101- A Girl Learning Opportunity

At this training you and your girls will learn all about the
Girl Scout travel program and how to get involved. You’ll
learn how to find out about trips with nationwide
participation as well as trips your troop can undertake on a
DIY basis. There is a strict timeline for the process and
you’ll uncover all those details as well. |
