Offering close-to-town facilities with
the ambiance of a remote desert oasis, the Hacienda affords a relaxing environment and facilities suited for a
variety of large and small group functions. The unique character of the
Hacienda is more than the sum of its natural beauty and physical
facilities; if visitors listen carefully, they will hear the echoes of
Girl Scouts playing, working and learning together.

Two-hour program includes science presentation, laboratory experiments,
a self-guided nature hike and an art project. Bring a picnic lunch for
extra fun.
Cost is $5 per Girl Scout. There is no charge for adults. Adequate adult
supervision must be provided. Hacienda staff are only
responsible for science instruction. Minimum size of group is 10,
maximum is 60.

Discover Astronomy: Programs
available for all levels of Girl Scouts
Topics to choose from include: The Earth/Moon System, Planets of
our Solar System, Stars in Our Galaxy, and Our Great Big
Universe. Learn through hands-on activities and interactive
demonstrations. Discover the role that the University of Arizona
plays in the field of astronomy. Night programs are available
and will include telescope observations. |

All About Birds: Girls ages
7-17
This program is an educational experience to closely study the
diverse bird population of Southern Arizona and research its
relationship to the health of the environment. Girl Scouts ages
7-17 will be introduced to the field of ornithology as a career,
educationally and/or artistically. |

Science Sleuth: Seeing Light:
Recommended for Girl Scouts ages 8-11
Your eyes can only see a portion of the light that is actually
present – the white light. Technology allows us to see other
kinds of light on the spectrum, such as infrared or X-ray. Each
type of light has its own signature pattern. We will separate
and study different light. Each student will be able to record
the signature of regular light, the sun and a fluorescent bulb.
There will also be discussion on light pollution in Arizona and
how individuals can make a difference. |

Animal Discovery: Program
geared towards Daisies and Brownies ages 5 - 9
Visit the pond and learn about the animals that live there.
Study and work with insects that help protect vegetation. Make
toy pond animals and play ecology games with them. Bring a snack
and have a picnic by the pond. |
