Welcome to Juliettes,
Hey! My
name is Katie Gorenflo and I am the Juliette Coordinator and I’m here to
help you stay connected. If you are new to Girl Scouts or have been in
a troop and are now switching to individual, we’re excited you are
here. In this program you will be working on Try-Its, badges, or
Interest Patches at your own pace with your adult advisor. Monthly
newsletters will keep you connected with what this month’s Try-It, badge
or Interest Patch is for your age level, community service ideas and
what events are on the horizon.
As a
Juliette you will be working very closely with your advisor. An advisor
is usually a parent, but may be an adult mentor or a relative. The
relationship with the advisor is usually a one to one ratio, unless of
course you have sisters that are also Juliettes. You may on occasion
get together with other Juliettes and their advisors to do activities,
however the majority of girls’ advisors should be present at these
get-togethers. Your advisor is the person that will help you through
your Girl Scout journey by answering any questions you have, signing you
up for activities that you want to do, accompanying you to these events,
and helping you with the cookie program. If you do not have an advisor
I can help trying to locate one for you as well.
In
addition to the badge in the monthly newsletter, you can also explore
the badge book and see what other badges you might be interested in each
month. It’s not a contest to earn the most badges it’s a time to learn
more about new and exciting areas and to enjoy the journey. Earning
badges can be a lot of hard work, but it’s well worth the effort. If
you are a Daisy Girl Scout, I will send an authorization card to your
advisor to purchase the “Promise Center and Petal” set. Your advisor
can award these as you work to understand the Girl Scout Promise and
Law. Your advisor will decide when you are eligible to receive each of
these awards. If you are a Brownie, Junior or Girl Scout 11-17 I will
send you a completion record sheet for your program age level after I
receive your registration. Once you have completed a badge you will
need to fill in the record sheet and mail it to me or drop it off at the
council office. I will then send the authorization card so your advisor
can purchase the earned items at the council shop. You will be unable
to purchase earned awards at the shop without authorization.
Remember
to read through your badge book with your advisor regularly. Your
schoolwork, after-school activities, family activities and travel may
all be able to be counted toward earning Girl Scout awards, but you must
be familiar with the awards and their requirements to know what could be
applied. You might not complete all the requirements for an award at
school or in one of your after-school activities, but you can record and
receive credit for those requirements that you have completed. Remember
you have up to three years, depending on your age to complete work
toward any given Girl Scout award. Partially completed awards from
school or extra-curricular activities may encourage you to complete an
award.
As a
Juliette you will also be able to attend council-wide sponsored events
for your age level, with your advisor. In addition to information about
programs in the monthly newsletter, you can also view our program
selections on this Web site. Once on this page select your age level
and start looking at all the options available to you. Many of our
programs fill up fast so if you are interested in attending an event
sign up as soon as possible. We will also have several Juliette Only
events through out the year so you can come and participate and meet
other girls that are also individual Girl Scouts.
As a
Juliette you can also participate in the Cookie Program. There will be
training for Juliettes and their advisors in December and a make up
session in January. During the training you and your advisor will
receive information to make the cookie program as successful as possible
for you, and your advisor can sign the permission slip allowing you to
participate in the cookie program. Juliettes interested in
participating in the cookie program will be pooled together as a
“special interest group” and will all share equally in the monetary
incentives the group earns. Each girl will have an account set up at
the council shop with their share and will be able to purchase items
from the council shop, and register for programs or summer camp.
You can
always contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
Sincerely,
Katie
Gorenflo
