Sunday at the Ballpark!

Take em’ out to the old ball game and welcome home the Tucson Toros! Fan favorite Tuffy the Toro will join Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts for a night at the ballpark. Fee includes general admission and a fun patch. Bring your troop flag and be part of a parade in front of the crowd. Dinner is not included, but it’s Dollar Dog night at the ballpark so you can feed your Toros fans for just a buck!

Skate-o-Rama

Daisies and Brownies can lace up their skates and get rolling at the morning skate session at Skate Country. Price includes admission, skates, ice cream cup, soda and a fun patch. We’ve provided the reservation and the deposit, leaders and parents must provide adults per Safety-Wise.

Calling all Brownies… it’s Brownie Day at Rocks and Ropes! Girls will love scaling new heights in a safe, controlled environment, discovering their power and personal strength while having fun. Your troop needs a 1 to 3 adult/girl ratio as adults will be working with girls to belay them as they climb. Price includes entry, equipment, belay lesson for adult assistants, pizza and beverage. Adults will not climb.

From Earth to Eat:
Make Your Own Teeny Garden!

Come and learn about the demonstration garden at the Resource Center. Girls will create their very own teeny gardens. Each girl will be able to take home a planted pot or small container.

Developing Financially Healthy Families

Parents and their Daisies and/or Brownies can spend an hour full of fun learning practical applications of financial responsibility in the home. You will be provided with the tools and tips to create a dialogue with your kids to help budget and teach lifelong financial skills – the difference between “wants” and “needs,” becoming disciplined shoppers, and appreciating allowance will be topics discussed. Parents will meet separately from girls. Girls will do hands-on money fun activities (only registered Girl Scouts can participate in the girl activities).

From Earth to Eat: Harvest Festival

Come and celebrate the harvest from our demonstration garden. Girls can participate in harvest-themed activities, taste treats made from garden crops and observe the whole process of bringing food to the table in the From Earth to Eat photo gallery.

Girls of all ages are invited to join Girl Scouts at the Foothills Mall for our 3rd Annual Fit, Fun & Fabulous event! Awesome activities, great giveaways – it is known to be a fun and fabulous time! Bring a friend – girls do not need to be a Girl Scout to be part of the fun! Each girl who attends receives a patch.

The Red Balloon is a great introduction to cinema for children, an exploration of other cultures, and a wonderful lesson about friendship. The simple style of The Red Balloon is a refreshing change of pace from much of contemporary children’s movies. This film delights children, especially the anthropomorphic antics of the balloon. Though filmed in French, children have no problem grasping the message. After the film girls will discuss their impressions–the language, the independence of Pascal, the messages of friendship and hope, how to deal with bullies. They will create an artpiece, inspired by the film, to take home.

A Visit to the Community Food Bank

As part of the From Earth to Eat program , Daisies and Brownies are invited to join us on a visit to the Community Food Bank. We will tour the demonstration and market garden learning what vegetables can be grown in Southern Arizona, how to use water wisely, what composting is and why it is important and what makes something “organic!” This is a hands-on visit. Bring a sack lunch and stay to play at the Community Food Bank’s 3000 square foot shaded playground.

Night Sky Astronomy Celebration

Daisies and Brownies are encouraged to attend this important workshop conducted by two women police officers from Tucson Police Department. Girls will learn who “strangers” are, tips for being safe, the importance of communicating with adults and more! This is a MUST attend workshop for any little girl!

Water in the Desert

Celebrate Make a Difference Day by making a difference in our desert water supplies. Discover amazing things about our water supplies and learn about the journey of the water from its source and how it arrives in your drinking glass. Connect with the people who take care of our water for us and Take Action by learning how to care for our water ourselves! Take a stream walk and collect data on the health of our water supply.

Have an awesome time discovering the fun sport of jump rope. In this workshop you will learn single rope tricks, long rope tricks and in no time instructors will have you doing double-dutch like a professional.

Behind the Scenes...Reid Park Zoo!

Girls will love this behind the scenes tour at the Reid Park Zoo. Visits to the zoo’s kitchen, health center, and an animal night house will give you a whole new perspective on what it takes to keep the zoo’s animal residents healthy and active. After the tour, your troop/family is free to explore the zoo on your own. Fee includes zoo admission, tour and a fun patch. Please note, children under 5 years old will not be allowed on tour.

Join the Teeny Greenies program as we learn about trees in Southern Arizona. Girls will learn about the importance of trees, what trees are used for, what makes a good tree for our arid land and more. Girls will get their hands dirty helping plant shade trees around the Hacienda Program Center and work on a tree-related take away project.

Our partnership with the Returned Peace Corps Fellows continues as they join us again for this special Thinking Day celebration! Troops presenting will be contacted by our coordinator after registering to determine countries they’ve represented before and what their preference is for this year. Every effort will be made to accommodate you, but selection is dependent on our available Peace Corps representatives. A work session will be planned prior to the holidays (date TBA). This year’s celebration will include a parade of flags by popular request!

Service is an important part of Girl Scouting. This Arizona Cactus-Pine Council’s Own patch can be earned by completing 3 out of 4 activities during Girl Scout Week. Celebrate Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month

Join us to learn about the ancient Hohokam who lived at the Vista Del Rio archaeological site. Supervised demonstrations and hands-on activities will be staged at sequential stations along a trail through the park. There will be demonstrations of traditional Native American crafts such as pottery-making, flintknapping and basket weaving; and hands-on activities including making pottery artifacts that participants can take home, grinding corn on an ancient metate and mano set, and learning to play at least one traditional Native American game.
