Camp registration begins February 15, 2010. Please choose the camps your girl or troop wishes to attend and fill out the registration form completely. Registrations can be filled out online or mailed in. Deposits and Fees

A $25.00 per camper deposit is required for most camps at the time of registration. Horse Camp and Camp Surf require a $50 deposit. Troop Camps require a deposit of $15 per participant. In the case of On Your Own Troop Camp, your deposit is the entire fee. Deposits are not refundable if your girl is placed in a program but cannot attend. The balance of the fee must be paid at least four weeks prior to the starting date of camp. Deposit will be deducted from total fees DUE. Not a Girl Scout? Not a Problem! All girls are welcomed and encouraged to participate in our camps! By the end of your girl's camp experience she will be a Girl Scout! Simply include a one-time $12 membership fee with your deposit. Please make checks payable to SGSC. Visa, MasterCard and Discover are also accepted.

Refund Information

Refunds of camp fees, less the deposit amount, will be granted if requests are received in writing at the council office at least four weeks prior to the starting date of camp.

Financial Assistance

Those unable to pay the full camp fee may apply for assistance through the Opportunity Fund. Contributors such as National T.T.T. Society and the Arizona Daily Star Sportsmen's Fund, as well as some proceeds from the annual Girl Scout Cookie Program help to bring girls to camp. A simple application form is provided on the Forms page. Forms must be filled out and signed by the parent or guardian, not a troop leader. Incomplete forms may be delayed. Opportunity Funds are awarded based on financial need. Applications for support are confidential and are viewed only by a small staff committee; volunteers are not involved in the selection process

Cookie Dough can not exceed $100.00 when applied towards Horse Camp and Camp Surf. Cookie Dough can be transferred to a member in a girl's immediate household. The Council will mail confirmation of Girl Cookie Dough directly to girls who have earned it by mid April. Once Cookie Dough is awarded, you may apply it towards the balance due.

Health and Safety

Every precaution is taken to see that your child has a healthy and safe summer camp experience. Sahuaro Girl Scout Council, Inc. complies with the safety standards of the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. as defined in Safety-Wise and other publications detailing strict site management guidelines.

At Whispering Pines a qualified health supervisor is available on site during Resident Camp and a doctor is on call. All staff at Hacienda Program Center and Whispering Pines Program Center are certified in first aid and CPR. All campers are required to provide a health history and Resident Camp participants must have a health examination by a licensed physician within the 24-month period preceding their camp experience. Information and health history forms are provided in the confirmation packet. All medication brought to Resident Camp must be turned over to the health supervisor who will administer it according to the directions. During troop camps leaders are responsible for the administration of girls' medications. Children and adults who participate in Mom & Me, Troop, and Day Camps are required only to submit a health history. On camp arrival day, the camp medical personnel have the right to refuse to admit a girl to camp who does not meet the acceptable health conditions. Examples: temperature, contagious disease, lice, etc.

Transportation to Whispering Pines

Optional transportation to and from Resident Camp is available for an additional charge. The cost is $30 round trip or $15 one way. Buses leave from and return to the Girl Scout Resource Center at 4300 East Broadway Blvd. in Tucson. If you would like your girl to ride the bus to or from camp please indicate so on the registration form. If your transportation needs should change please notify the Council at least three weeks prior to the beginning of camp. Information on bus schedules is provided in the confirmation packet. A minimum number of riders will be required to ensure bus service. Participants of Mom & Me and Troop Camps must provide their own transportation to and from camp.

Bus Chaperones

Adults are needed to help provide a positive experience as campers depart for Resident Camp. Each adult will assist with camper check-in and deliver them to camp staff upon arrival at camp. If you are interested in chaperoning please indicate so on the registration form. Chaperones' girls will ride without charge. Space for chaperones is limited. If you are chosen as a chaperone, you will be notified by phone.

Staff

Sahuaro Girl Scout Council, Inc. employs responsible, energetic, knowledgeable, caring and committed staff. Staff members are young adults, many of whom are attending college or are college graduates. All camp staff are screened via background checks and confidential references. Both new and returning staff are involved in an intensive training program before campers arrive.

Food

Whispering Pines Resident Camp serves ample, well balanced meals approved by a dietitian. The camp cooks provide healthy meals with multiple options suited to youthful tastes. Most meals are served family-style in the camp dining hall. A salad bar is often available. Occasionally, the girls cook in their unit. Campers at the Hacienda bring sack lunches from home four days each week. One day during each camp, girls prepare and cook lunch or a special meal is brought in for the campers. Healthful snacks and beverages are provided each day. At either facility, we are happy to accommodate our campers' special dietary needs. Please note such needs on the health history form provided to you with confirmation materials.
