Total fees may also be sent at the time of registration. Non-Girl Scouts must pay an additional $10.00 membership fee with their registration. Make checks payable to SGSC. Visa and MasterCard also accepted.

Opportunity Fund

Those unable to pay the program fee in full may apply for assistance through the Opportunity Fund. Contributors such as National T.T.T. Society and the Arizona Daily Star Sportsmen’s Fund, as well as some proceeds from the annual Girl Scout cookie program help to bring girls to camp. A simple application form is provided below. Fee support is awarded on a sliding scale based on financial need. Applications for support are confidential and are viewed only by a small staff committee. Cookie Dough
Cookie Dough is earned via the Cookie Program. Cookie Dough can be used for ANY camp in this brochure, and DOUBLES for all Whispering Pines Resident Camps, Family Camps and Troop Camps AND... AND Hacienda Day Camps. Cookie Dough can be used for Camp Surf and Summer Adventures, but DOES NOT DOUBLE. Cookie Dough can be transferred to a sister in a girl’s immediate family only. Girls will learn how much they’ve earned on May 1, 2008. Once Cookie Dough is awarded, you may apply it towards the balance due.

Every precaution is taken to see that your child has a healthy and safe summer program experience. Sahuaro Girl Scout Council, Inc. complies with the safety standards of the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. as defined in Safety-Wise and other publications detailing strict site management guidelines.

At Whispering Pines a qualified health supervisor is available on site during Resident Camp and a doctor is on call. All staff at Hacienda and Whispering Pines are certified in first aid and CPR. Resident Camp campers are required to provide a health history and to have a health examination by a licensed physician within the 24-month period preceding their camp session. All medication brought to Resident Camp must be turned over to the health supervisor who will administer it according to the directions. During troop camps leaders are responsible for the administration of girls’ medications. On camp arrival day, the camp medical personnel have the right to refuse to admit a girl to camp who does not meet the acceptable health conditions. Examples: temperature, contagious disease, lice, etc.

Staff
Sahuaro Girl Scout Council employs responsible, energetic, knowledgeable, caring and committed staff. Staff members are young adults, many of whom are attending college or are college graduates. All camp staff are screened via confidential references. Both new and returning staff are involved in an intensive training program before campers arrive.

Food
Whispering Pines serves ample, well balanced meals approved by a dietitian. The camp cooks provide healthy meals with multiple options suited to youthful tastes. Most meals are served family-style in the camp dining hall. A salad bar is often available. Occasionally the girls cook in their unit. Campers at the Hacienda bring sack lunches from home four days each week. One day during each session, girls prepare and cook lunch or a special meal is brought in for the campers. Beverages are provided each day. At either facility, we are happy to accommodate our campers’ special dietary needs; note such needs on the health history form provided to you with confirmation materials.
